On Wednesday 19 August 2026, Cockermouth will host both the start and finish of the opening stage of the race for the first time.
The 158.9km stage will take riders from Cockermouth to the west coast through Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport, before heading inland via Silloth and Wigton. The route showcases spectacular views of the Irish Sea, the Energy Coast and the northern edge of the Lake District, before finishing back in Cockermouth after a challenging circuit around Clints Crags, Watch Hill and Ruddings Hill.
The race offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything that makes Cumberland unique – from the birthplace of William Wordsworth in Cockermouth to the Georgian harbour of Whitehaven, the industrial heritage of Workington and our beautiful coastal and rural landscapes.
The Lloyds Tour of Britain Women is more than a sporting event. It celebrates community pride, supports local businesses and inspires people of all ages to get active. As some of the world’s best female cyclists take to Cumberland’s roads, the race will highlight our commitment to healthier lifestyles, active travel and thriving communities.
