Thursday 8 May commemorates the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the day which in 1945 saw the end of war in Europe and the beginning of the end of WWII.
At 9am they will raise the VE Day flag, and the proclamation will be made by the town crier.
From 1pm to 4pm at the Community Centre, they are hosting an afternoon tea with live music – over 65’s only and booking is essential. Places are limited so please call 016977 3382 to book your place.
At 9.30pm, alongside other parishes across the country, they will light a beacon. Join them outside the Moot Hall from 9.15pm where the Chairman of the parish council will mark the occasion with a short speech; local army cadets will read the official tribute; Piper Armstrong will play a unique tune especially written for the occasion ‘Celebratum’ (plus one or two more tunes); finally followed by the lighting of the Beacon. Whilst the Beacon is lit, they will join people throughout the nation in singing “I Vow to Thee My Country”, followed by the National Anthem led by local choir singers.
