Live Music in Cockermouth

We bring professional classical musicians to Cockermouth for 7 concerts, one a month, during our season which runs from September to March. There are young artists starting out on their career as well as more established names. Our performers come in groups typically of two, three or four and sometimes more; some perform on their own. In a typical season there are string players, pianists and wind bands. The music is drawn from four or five centuries including our own. You can buy tickets and memberships on-line in our website shop.

Cockermouth Music Society

We are a charity set up to bring live classical music to Cockermouth and District. The management board are committed volunteers wanting to share their love of music, to make performances available to as wide an audience as possible. On occasion our artists run workshops in local schools. In addition to our professional series, we organise a young person’s concert and a member’s concert when we become the performers.

Local Area

Cockermouth is a lively market town on the northern boundary of the English Lake District. For a town of its population it has an outsize musical and artistic life. Our Brass Band, The Mechanics, is 200 years old. The Kirkgate Arts Centre shows films, and puts on theatrical and musical events. It tends to leave the classical repertoire to us. During ‘Cockermouth Live!’ every year, there is music throughout the town in bars and coffee shops. The festival ends with the Cockermouth Community Orchestra performing to a packed house in Christ Church.
