Start at the visitor centre to plan your visit, pick up your trail map before heading out into the trees. Little ones will love the interactive Wildplay trail as they climb, swing and explore. Will you spot the Gruffalo hiding somewhere in the forest? With 36km of cycling trails (blue red and black grade as well as gravel routes) Whinlatter’s built for all-day riding. Bring your own bike or hire one from Cyclewise Whinlatter onsite – why not choose an ebike and explore even further? With miles of walking trails to enjoy you’ll discover stunning panoramic views and peaceful woodland groves. The Wow trail showcases the whole story of Whinlatter as it leads you through to a stunning viewpoint wildlife hide and idyllic forest bathing area. Fancy a bit more of an adrenaline rush? Go Ape Whinlatter is the perfect place to climb, swing and zip through the trees – are you up to the challenge? A visit isn’t complete without a trip to Café Ambio, enjoy a tasty snack or a filling meal as you plan your adventure or rest after a busy day enjoying the forest. Did you know that Whinlatter is a National Red Squirrel Reserve? These secretive creatures call the forest home and if you’re very lucky you might even spot one during your visit! Are you a member? Set within the Lake District, a World Heritage Site, Whinlatter has unrivalled views across Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater and Keswick. It is also home to the longest purpose-built mountain bike trails in the Lake District.

How To Find Us

By Car: From Keswick, take the A66 west towards Cockermouth. At Braithwaite village, turn west onto the B5292 for Lorton. Follow Whinlatter Visitor Centre signposts for approximately 3 miles. Go car-free and travel by public transport: We welcome car-free visitors and offer free admission to those arriving by public transport or bike – plan your journey at Good Journey. During the summer months there is a bus service between Keswick and Whinlatter which gives you the option of travelling via the beautiful Honister Rambler route, route number 77/77A.
