Between Whitehaven’s mines and Harbour, the museum tells the story of historic Cumberland, an area set amongst the Lake District’s dramatic mountain and coastal landscapes. With four floors of family-friendly galleries and an ongoing programme of exhibitions and events, there really is something for everyone.

Opening hours; Term time; Tuesday – Saturday 10.00 – 4.30pm Sunday 11.00 – 4.00 Monday – Closed Holiday time Monday – Sunday 10.00am – 4.30pm In addition to the museum and gallery, on the ground floor you’ll find the Howling Wolf Café artisan bakery and café serving delicious coffee & meals & in-house baked bread & pastries. We alos have a wonderful museum shop featuring a range of unique gifts that continue the story and themes of your visit. From iconic Whitehaven scenes in print, to locally crafted preserves and gifts.

Set along the beautiful coast of the Western Lake District, situated on Whitehaven’s historic Harbour. Whether it be by car, bus, train and bike, there are many easy and convenient routes to get to us. Pay and display parking on site with limited spaces.
