Ravenglass Railway Museum

The Ravenglass Railway Museum tells the story of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway from 1875 until modern day. Housed in the former Furness Railway platform shelter at Ravenglass, the museum has displays and interactives for all ages to enjoy, including a train shed full of locomotives and carriages from the railway’s past. Become the driver of a real steam engine, blow the whistle, learn about all of the different jobs on the railway.

Local Area

The museum also operates the Old British Rail Signal Box. This building once controlled the trains running between the R&ER and the mainline railway. Open on selected days when our volunteers are available, the Old Signal Box offers visitors the chance to step back in time and discover the traditional workings of the railways.
