The Melbreak Hotel

Boutique Hotel and Restaurant Between the Lake District and the Solway Coast

With 37 elegant en suite bedrooms – including two exclusive suites – the Melbreak hotel is perfect for holidays and business trips alike. On site, we boast a popular restaurant, The Conservatory, which enjoys glorious views of the Lake District mountains. A well-stocked bar and comfortable lounge area is the perfect place to relax with a drink in the evening. Our position just off the A595 means we are well connected to the motorway at Penrith and Carlisle, as well as the both the Western and Northern Lakes, with popular locations such as Keswick, Ennerdale and Cockermouth just a short drive away. At the heart of all that we do is our ethos of sustainability. Our on-site parking includes 6 EV chargers, and power and heating is provided by solar panels and a wood chip biomass boiler, topped up with low-carbon electricity from Scottish Power.

The Melbreak Hotel

Enjoy a warm welcome and a tranquil break at The Melbreak, a family run hotel conveniently located for the Northern and Western Lake District, the Solway Coast AONB, and the breath-taking ‘secret’ coast of Cumbria. With both the countryside and town life on the doorstep, we can boast the best of both worlds, with popular activities such as walking, golfing and cycling all within easy reach.

Local Area

The Western Lake District, Cockermouth, Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and “secret” Cumbrian coast are all just a short drive away from the Melbreak. There is something for everyone to do, from hiking in the soaring mountains, shopping and eating in pretty towns, and lazing on the sandy beaches. Our nearest town is Workington, which includes large green spaces, a pretty river, local history museums, theatres and music venues, and a varied shopping centre. Head further afield to enjoy the blissful peace of Wasdale and Ennerdale lakes, or take a drive along the coast to see the cliffs, wildlife and golf courses at St Bees and Silloth. With so much to do, you’ll never be short of activities, whatever your interests.

How To Find Us

From the M6 at Penrth or the A1(M) at Scotch Corner, follow the A66 west until you pass Cockermouth. From there, continue along the main road to the Bridgefoot roundabout and take the first exit. You will see the hotel on your right, and the turn off is just a few metres beyond.
